After food Pete told us the plan for today. Instead of splitting up, we were all going together to Millwood to do various bush craft activities. Before leaving the Centre, we gathered on the patio and Pete came out with some bowls, flour, sugar and water. He explained that we were going to make our own bread, which we would cook on a fire in the forest. First we mixed together the water and flour before adding a little bit of sugar. We mixed everything together to form our dough, then split the dough equally between us and wrapped it up in foil. We put the dough balls into our bags ready to cook later.
Miss Howells' group headed to the wood with Pete and Gethin, while Mr Jones and his group stayed at the Centre waiting for Pete to come back with the bus. While each group was waiting they learned to play a new game called 'Eagle Eye' (Like hide and seek, but with a small twist).
Once both groups met up, we had a bit of free time to explore the woods. We then moved off to a clearing where Pete began to show and explain to us how to make a fire and how a fire works. We then had a chance to make our own small fires. Together then, we made a larger fire using cotton wool and various different sized sticks.
Pete and Gethin split us up into two new groups and set us the challenge of building two dens, large enough for us all to fit in. While we worked on our dens, the instructors made sure the fire was ready to cook our bread. They decided the fire was ready and we placed our dough balls next to the fire to cook.
While the bread was cooking, we played a load of games of Eagle Eye. By the end we were getting really good at hiding close to the person looking for us.
Eventually our bread was cooked. We had to wait a little while for the foil to cool down, but eventually we were able to peel the foil away and tuck into our bread. It was pretty nice, and was even nicer when we dipped it into the melted butter Gethin had made.
We were a lot later leaving the wood and made it back to the Centre just before tea was being served. Again, the food served up by Catherine was delicious. We had roast chicken, jacket potato, croquettes and peas / sweetcorn. After our main course, desert was a tasty apple crumble and ice cream.
As the evening was sunny, we headed down to Rhossili again. Luckily tonight, the lovely staff at The Bay opened up especially for us to buy an ice cream. They were absolutely scrumptious, but they didn't help to warm us up. As it was quite cold, we headed straight back rather than strolling down to the beach.
Thank you so much for the messages, we are passing them on to the children every morning and they really do appreciate them, please keep them coming. Tomorrow the plan is to swap the groups from Tuesday, with one group climbing and one group gorge walking.
