For our last full day at Rhossili 2017, the plan was to repeat Tuesday, but swap groups. Mr Jones' group were going gorge walking, while Mia Howells' group were going rock .
We woke up and had yet another delicious breakfast of bacon, scrambled egg, waffles and beans. One of the children ate about 10 rashers of bacon. Pete and Gethin arrived and made sure we knew what kit we needed for the day. We got all that we needed together and set off.
Mr Jones group set off in the bus to Neath for a day gorge walking, after struggling to squeeze into their wetsuits. We arrived at the gorge and made our way down to the river. First up was a tricky little patch, which involved getting our feet in the water. It was really really cold, which ended up with some very cold toes. We continued to work our way along the river, sometimes in the water, sometimes over rock as and boulders. Towards the end we came to a waterfall, where we were able to jump in to a deep pool. Amazingly 9 out of 11 of us jumped in, even though it was really scary. Some of us then even jumped off a higher ledge. By the end, we were freezing cold and glad to warm up during the walk back down the hill to the bus. (Sorry for the lack of pictures today, but there will be plenty of video clips to come once we are back in school).
Miss Howells' group headed to Mewslade slab for a day of rock climbing and caving. We managed to get into one cave and all managed to get in and explore one, however we were unable to go into the other cave as when Gethin checked inside he found that there were bats living inside. Gethin then set up the climbing lines and we spent a few hours climbing, getting better and better each time.
Both groups arrived back at the Centre quite late, so we're pretty much straight to dinner where we had either curry or fish fingers for tea, followed by strawberry ice cream.
As it was the last night, we tried to save time in the morning by packing most of our cases before going outside and having marshmallows cooked on the barbecue. They were really tasty, especially when sandwiched between two chocolate digestive biscuits.
The night was ended with the chocolate game, where you have to try to eat a bar of chocolate, square at a time, using a knife and fork, wearing a woolly hat, scarf and gloves. It was great fun and a fun way to end our time in Rhossili.
A big thank you to the instructors, Pete and Gethin and the Centre staff, Catherine and Margret for making our week even more amazing. We have really enjoyed and can't wait to come away again in Year 6.
Finally, it has been a pleasure to bring the children away, they have behaved really well all week and have represented the school perfectly.
Thank you,
Mr Jones and Miss Howells.
