We headed to the dining room for a delicious breakfast, including: cereal, bacon, waffles, beans and toast. Once we finished, we cleared out plates and bowls away and waited for the instructors to tell us what we were going to be doing.
Stuart and Aaron told us that we would be splitting into two groups. One group were going on a walk all around Rhossili and the beach, while the other group were doing some orienteering, first around the Centre, followed by going around Millwood.
The group with Mr Jones went on the walk up the Rhosilli Downs. We walked all the way to the top and gathered at the Trig point (193m). The view at the top was amazing, but it was really windy and we started to get cold. We continued along the top, while Aaron kept pointing out all the different features, including different plant, types of moss and animal tracks. While we were walking we came across an old Radar station that was used to track airplanes and boats during WW2, this was really interesting. We then set out on our way down, the hill was really steep, and a few children slipped and fell on their bottoms. Aaron taught us how to zig-zag our way down, to make it easier for us.
Once we reached the bottom, we headed across the sand dunes and onto Rhossili beach. While we walked along we saw lots of jellyfish, cuttlefish and razor clams. It was weird touching the jellyfish, they were solid, yet slimy. We climbed up the hill, off the beach and regained some energy by having an ice cream. Unfortunately, one of us licked our ice cream too hard, and a blob of mint chocolate chip ended up on the floor.
The orienteering group started off at the Centre and got introduced to how to read a map. We had to work our way around the Centre, finding different letters. These letters eventually spelled out the word ORIENTEERING.
After that, we went on the minibus to Millwood. Stuart explained our task to us and pointed us in the right direction. We then headed off, with our maps and compasses to find all the red triangles and identify the patterns. The boys and the girls went in separate teams, but ended up together at the end. The boys managed to find 3 patterns, while the girls also managed to find 3.
The paths were a little muddy and a one of the children and teacher managed to slip down a hill. The child in particular made it look like the mud was a treadmill.
Back in the Centre, we got ourselves washed and changed before having another delicious tea of bolognese, pizza and chips. All followed by jelly and ice cream for desert.
After food were honoured to have Mr Craven visit. We spent a bit of time talking to him and catching up with all that was going on in school. We ended the night by playing a few games, completing our diaries, drinking hot chocolate and eating chocolate cornflake cakes.
Thank you so much for the messages, the children really appreciate them. If you would like to leave another message, please do.
Talk to you tomorrow.
