The instructors arrived and we got ourselves ready to head off. One group went on the walk over and around the Rhossili Downs, while the other group went climbing, caving and abseiling.
The walking group headed up the Downs on their way to the trig point. On the way Aaron talked to them about the different things along the way, such as different types of poop, heather, moss and the various hazards that they faced (there were loads). We walked along the top and made our way to the old Radar station. When we got there we played a game of eagle eye. We carried on walking till we reached the end of the Downs. To get down the steep side, Aaron taught us to zig zag to make the gradient less and the walk easier.
Once at the bottom, we headed across the dunes and onto the beach. While we were on the beach, we played a few games and generally had some fun. We made a human pyramid, ran into the water and played a game where we had to build a fort with stones, then other teams had to try and throw stones to land in our area.
On the way back we tried eating a variety of different plants. Aaron played a trick on us where he made us chew on a twig. One of us was convinced it tasted of green apple, before he told us that it was in fact, just a twig.
The second group went climbing first. We headed from the Centre and walked down to the area where we would be climbing. Stuart (Squid) set up the climbing lines while we had a snack. We scrambled down to the area we would be climbing. We worked in groups to climb, one person was climbing, one was controlling the rope, while the other made sure the rope was tight. We all really enjoyed and some even managed to make it to the top.
From there we headed off to do some abseiling and caving. While Squid set up the abseiling line, we went exploring some caves. Inside, it was really dark and cramped. Some of us were a bit scared, while others kept going in all the time. When Squid came back he checked out a cave that he had not been in before. When he came back and found it was safe, most of us went down into the cave. It was amazing inside, there was a big opening, where we could all stand up.
Finally we completed some abseiling. It was great fun, but really scary when we had to lean back over the edge.
Once back at the Centre we had a really delicious tea of Curry, rice and chips or fish fingers. The food all week has been amazing and we would really like to say thank you to the staff who have been amazing.
To end the night we walked down to Rhossili to get an ice cream. Unfortunately the shop was closed, however the staff at The Bay were brilliant and opened for us to all get an ice cream. When we return in April with Class 9, we will definitely be visiting nightly for an ice cream.
We have had an amazing week and would like to thank the instructors, the Centre staff, the staff at the Bay and everyone who has made our week unforgettable. Lastly, thank you to you all for leaving messages that have really given the children a boost. So for one last time, if you would like to leave a message, we will be sure to pass it on to the children.
Thank you
Mr Jones, Miss Howells and the children from Class 11
