To begin with. Sorry that this post is later than normal. As it was the last night, we stayed up a little later after our walk to Joe’s, talking about the highlights we had enjoyed this week.
For our last full day, we woke up (were woken up) again at 7 o’clock and got ourselves ready before heading down to breakfast. Today we had a full choice of options: cereal, bacon, sausage, hash browns, beans, scrambled egg and toast. After filling our faces for the day ahead we moved into the hall to get ourselves sorted and ready to go bodyboarding.
First off, Pete told us that the tide wasn't quite ready yet, so we took part in some extra orienteering work around the centre. We were given small sections of map and had to find our way around the centre looking for various markers.
Pete then made us line up in order from shortest to tallest, so that we could go and get our wetsuits. This part was pretty straight forward. We headed out to the cabin and collected our wetsuits. Then the fun began. Squeezing into the wetsuits was really difficult; we nearly all had a hard time getting them on properly. Some of had them back to front, some had them inside out, and some had them back to front and inside out.
After a bit of time and some help from our friends, Miss Howells and Mr Jones we were all packaged in and ready to head off to Caswell. We got onto the minibuses and made the trip.
Once we arrived, we zipped up the top half of our wetsuit, left our bags and shoes on the bus and collected a body board from Pete and John. It was then we started the walk down to the beach. We were starting to get a bit more excited now, even if the wetsuits were a bit tight and restricting.
Once by the water’s edge, Pete and John gave us some quick instructions for where we needed to be and what we needed to do and then we began to get used to the water.
First they made us line up in two groups and one at a time run all the way into the water, dive between their legs and then run back to tag the next person in our group. Some of us tried our best not to get fully under the water, so the next task was to pull the front of our wetsuit open so all the water went inside. After this we were used to the water and were ready to start body boarding.
After a few hours of body boarding, body surfing and general fun times in water it was time to get out. We trudged back up the beach with our equipment and had a quick shower at the top, before attempting to peel ourselves out of the wetsuits and get our dry clothes on.
Once back at Dan y Coed we had a proper shower and wash before making a start on packing our suitcases so that we would have more time in the morning.
We headed to down for food at 5:15ish and were greeted by the smell of lovely chicken curry with rice and chips. This was followed by a giant chocolate cookie while some of us had a yogurt.
For our last night, we headed along the cycle track to Oystermouth and had a Joe’s. Some of us had a nice small vanilla cone, others went for a much larger 3 scoop cone, and some even had huge Sundays. They were all really nice. We ate them carrying on walking along the path and then had some free time to play in the park. At one point nearly all of us were playing together on 1 ride.
We eventually headed back to Dan y Coed where we got ourselves ready for bed and then had a few games and a chat about our week, the highs, the lows and the funny moments. We then headed up to bed ready for our last night, knowing that we would be seeing our families tomorrow.
The simple plan for Friday is to head over to Caswell Bay where we will play some games on the beach, have a chance to visit the shop and spend some of our money, before heading back to school by around 2 o’clock. We will send a text as we are leaving to keep you posted with an approximate arrival time.
Thank you again for all the messages. You will not believe how happy they have made the children when we have read them to them.
