After a good sleep, we were awoken at just after 7 o’clock by Mr Jones banging on our doors with a large wooden keyring. We soon got ourselves together, some of us had yet another shower and we made sure our rooms were tidy, ready for judging later in the day.
We headed downstairs to the dining room, where we were greeted by a selection of cereals and orange or apple juice. Once our cereal was finished, the Dan y Coed Cook wheeled in the trolley piled up with hash browns, bacon, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, beans and toast. We went up, filled our plates and then filled our bellies ready for the day ahead.
For our first full day here, the plan was originally to split up and half of us go body boarding, while the other half went rock climbing. However, Pete explained to us that the waves were too large, so we were not going to be able to body board, but instead would all go climbing and will hopefully go body boarding later in the week.
We got ourselves together and again headed off in groups to go climbing. Each group got dropped off at Pennard, before starting on a long walk along the coast to Three Cliffs. The views on the way were amazing. We decided that we were going to go to Pennard Castle to have our dinner. We ate our food and enjoyed the rest before taking part in a few games of ‘Eagle Eye’.
We then headed back down, to Three Cliffs. It was brilliant when we got there, as we walked under the arch in the cliffs. When we got the other side, Pete and our new instructor, Charles started to set up the ropes ready for us to do some climbing.
We took it in turns to have a go at climbing up the face, and abseiled back down. Some of us found the climbing and abseiling really easy, some of us found the climbing easy and the abseiling difficult, and some of us found both difficult. Despite this, and the fact that a few of us were scares of heights, we ALL had a go at climbing. Mr Jones and Miss Howells were really proud of us for conquering our fears and all trying something new.
Once we had all had a go, some of us even had 2 or 3, we packed up all the equipment and made the long, hot trek back to the bus at Pennard. The one positive of this long day and long walk, was that at Pennard we were given our wallets and purses and were able to buy an ice cream from the shop.
We were pretty late getting back from climbing, we almost had to go straight in for food. Tonight we had pasta Bolognese with garlic bread. It was really tasty, some of us even had some extras. For dessert we then had either chocolate or vanilla arctic roll.
We headed back to Blackpill and again enjoyed our time in the pool, in the park or playing rugby, football and cricket on the grass.
Tomorrow, the plan is to split up again, with one group heading to Mumbles Hill to do some orienteering, while the other group go to Clyne Woods to have some fun in the forest. In the evening, we are planning to make a trip to Oystermouth for a Joe’s Ice Cream.
Thank you for all the messages on here and on Twitter, the children area really loving them, they are given them a well deserved boost. They have been brilliant so far, fingers crossed for the rest of the week.
